IG Broker Review

Founded in London in 1974, IG is a global leader in online trading, known for its competitive pricing, powerful platforms, and access to over 17,000 markets. While IG holds licences from top-tier regulators, Zambian traders are onboarded through IG International Limited, regulated by the Bermuda Monetary Authority (BMA).

Trading under the Bermuda entity gives Zambian clients access to IG’s full global product range, including forex, indices, shares, commodities, ETFs, and bonds—often with higher leverage limits than are available under stricter regulatory jurisdictions. All instruments are accessible through IG’s award-winning proprietary platforms, MetaTrader 4, L2 Dealer for direct market access, and TradingView integration.

IG offers a single multi-asset account with no minimum deposit requirement and spreads starting from 0.6 pips on EUR/USD. Traders also benefit from advanced tools such as ProRealTime charting, Autochartist, and integrated Reuters news, alongside a comprehensive library of educational resources and market analysis. However, Zambian traders should be aware that offshore regulation provides few investor protections.

Visit Broker
Accepts Zambian Clients. Average spread EUR/USD 0.85 pips on trading account with lowest minimum deposit. Max leverage 30:1. Islamic account available. IG, MT4, TradingView, and L2 Dealer platforms supported. IG Group is regulated by FCA, ASIC, and the BMA. 69% of retail investor accounts lose money when trading spread bets and CFDs with this provider. You should consider whether you understand how spread bets and CFDs work, and whether you can afford to take the high risk of losing your money.

Ready to trade with IG?

IG is regulated by 17 national authorities and is publicly listed on the London Stock Exchange, making it one of the most regulated brokers.

Is IG Regulated?

Regulatory Overview: IG is licensed and regulated in multiple jurisdictions worldwide, including:

  • Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) – IG Markets Limited (UK)
  • Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) – IG Markets Ltd (Australia)
  • Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) – IG Asia Pte Ltd (Singapore)
  • Bermuda Monetary Authority (BMA) – IG International Limited (Bermuda)

Regulation for Zambian Traders: Zambian clients are onboarded through IG International Limited, regulated by the Bermuda Monetary Authority. This offshore arrangement allows IG to offer higher leverage and a wider selection of instruments than would be possible under stricter Tier-1 regulation.

Client Protection Measures

  • Segregated Funds: Client deposits are held in segregated accounts, separate from IG’s own funds.
  • Negative Balance Protection: Traders cannot lose more than their deposited capital.
  • Offshore Oversight: While the BMA provides regulatory supervision, it does not offer the same investor protection schemes or dispute resolution mechanisms as Tier-1 regulators like the FCA or ASIC.

IG is a financially secure broker with a long history of reliable service, but Zambian traders should note that offshore regulation means reduced investor protections compared to local or top-tier oversight.

IG’s Trading Instruments

The sheer volume of tradable instruments available at IG is staggering. Not only does IG offer one of the widest selections of shares to trade in the industry, but also offers weekend trading on major Forex pairs.

Available Assets and Leverage

Overview: Zambian clients onboarded through IG International Limited (Bermuda) have access to one of the largest ranges of CFD instruments in the industry, covering over 17,000 markets worldwide. These include forex pairs, indices, shares, commodities, cryptocurrencies, ETFs, and bonds, all available with the flexibility to go long or short. IG also offers weekend trading on GBP/USD, USD/JPY, and EUR/USD.  Spreads are higher over the weekend (averaging 6 pips on the EUR/USD) and are fixed.

  • Forex: Over 80 currency pairs, including majors (EUR/USD, GBP/USD), minors (AUD/JPY, EUR/GBP), and exotics such as USD/ZAR and EUR/ZAR. Maximum leverage is up to 1:200 for retail clients under BMA regulation.
  • Indices: Trade CFDs on more than 30 global stock indices, including the S&P 500, NASDAQ 100, FTSE 100, DAX 40, and Nikkei 225. Major indices have leverage up to 1:200.
  • Shares: Thousands of share CFDs from major exchanges in the US, UK, Europe, Australia, and Asia. Leverage up to 1:20, with variable commission rates depending on the market.
  • Commodities: Includes metals (gold, silver, platinum), energy products (crude oil, natural gas), and soft commodities (coffee, cocoa, cotton). Leverage up to 1:100.
  • Cryptocurrencies: Major crypto CFDs such as Bitcoin, Ethereum, Litecoin, and Ripple, with leverage up to 1:20. Crypto CFDs are available 24/7, excluding maintenance periods.
  • ETFs and Bonds: Wide selection of global ETFs and bond CFDs, enabling diversified strategies across asset classes.

Because Zambian clients trade via IG’s offshore Bermuda entity, they benefit from high leverage limits. However, higher leverage significantly increases risk, and traders should use it cautiously to avoid rapid losses.

IG Accounts and Trading Fees

IG only offers a single trading account, but its trading fees are low compared to other Forex brokers.

Opening an Account at IG

All Zambian traders are eligible to open an account at IG, and with no minimum deposit required, new traders don’t have to worry about funding the account right away.

It took us about 15 minutes to open an account at IG, but our accounts were only ready for trading once our documentation had been verified, which took two days. However, we were pleasantly surprised to receive a phone call from customer service to assist with any troubleshooting issues.

Trading Accounts

Zambian clients trading via IG International Limited (Bermuda) have access to a single CFD trading account for all instruments. This account has no minimum deposit, low trading costs, and high leverage limits.

CFD Trading Account

IG operates a single multi-asset CFD account for retail clients under BMA regulation. The account features:

  • Minimum Deposit: None, though IG recommend starting with at least 300 USD (or currency equivalent)
  • Leverage: Up to 1:200 on forex pairs, 1:100 on commodities, and 1:20 on shares and cryptocurrencies
  • Spreads: From 0.6 pips on EUR/USD, with typical spreads averaging 0.8–1.0 pips during peak trading hours
  • Commissions: No commission on forex, indices, or commodities – costs are included in the spread; share CFDs have variable commissions depending on the exchange
  • Base Currencies: USD, GBP, EUR, AUD, SGD

Trading Platforms

This account can be accessed via IG’s proprietary web platform, mobile trading app, MetaTrader 4 (MT4) or TradingView. The proprietary platform includes advanced charting tools, integrated news feeds, and risk management features.

Demo Account

IG offers a free demo account with USD 10,000 in virtual funds. The demo mirrors live market conditions and is available on all platforms, allowing traders to test strategies before committing real capital.

IG Deposits and Withdrawals

IG charges no deposit or withdrawal fees for bank wires, but credit card and PayPal deposit fees are higher than other brokers.

Account Currencies and Funding Options

In line with Anti-Money Laundering policies, IG returns all non-profit funds to the original deposit source.

Accepted Deposit Currencies: While IG does allow traders to select different base currencies other than USD, new accounts are always denominated in USD by default. This can only be changed by emailing the IG support team with your name, date of birth and address, and the account number you would like to change.

This obviously takes some time and is a serious hassle for traders who trade exclusively in specific CFDs and want to avoid the 0.5% conversion fee.

While withdrawal costs are low and withdrawal times are average for the industry, IG does charge fees on deposits via credit card.
